Letās say an athlete walks into your office looking for advice. They might have a problem they want to have resolved or just to get something off their chest. Keep in mind these ādonātsā when responding to the athleteās concerns.
1) Donāt rush to provide an example from your own experience. āWar storiesā hold great meaning to you, but they may lead the player to think, āWhat does this have to do with me?ā
If you recount an experience from your past, preface it by saying, āThis worked well for me and maybe it will work for you as well.ā
2) Donāt say, āI know exactly how you feel.ā This can come off as a bit presumptuous. Instead say, āThat sounds like a tough situation. Maybe I can offer some advice that will be helpfulā¦ā
